Mathematics and Science Center Director

Dr. Terry Parks

Dr. Parks came to St. Clair County RESA in August 1994. From 1990-94, he was the first director of the Battle Creek Area Mathematics and Science Center in Battle Creek, Michigan. From 1971-1990, he was the K-12 Director of Mathematics and Computer Education for the Shawnee Mission, Kansas Public Schools (a large suburban Kansas City school district). He taught junior high science and mathematics and high school chemistry in Shawnee Mission for five years.

 

Terry completed his B.S. and M.S. degrees in science and mathematics education at Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia, Kansas. He began post graduate work in chemistry at Temple University, Philadelphia, PA in 1966 and completed his Ph.D. in Chemistry at Brown University, Providence, RI in 1970 followed by a year of post-doctoral research at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY.

Dr. Monica Hartman

Dr. Hartman began her teaching career in Detroit where she held a variety of teaching positions in first through sixth grade for twenty-seven years. She entered the AIMS (Activities Integrating Mathematics and Science) instructional Leadership Program in 1992 and worked during the summer time as a national mathematics and science consultant.  Her work with the people she met with AIMS inspired her to continue her education. She started her Ph.D. studies in Mathematics, Science, and Educational Technology at the University of Michigan.  After leaving Detroit, she went to work as a learning consultant for the Melvindale Public Schools. She was there for five years before coming to St. Clair County RESA.

 

Monica received a master’s degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Detroit and a master’s degree in Education from the University of Michigan. She earned a Ph.D. in Educational Studies with a specialization in Teacher Education, Science Education, and Learning Technologies from the University of Michigan in 2004.

Ms. Laura Chambless

Laura graduated from Central Michigan University. She completed her graduate degree at Northern Michigan University. Classroom experiences througout the elementary grades provided Laura with a wealth of experiences from which to draw in her current role as mathematics and science consultant. She also has developed expertise in implementing cooperative learning strategies in the classroom.

 

Prior to working at St. Clair RESA, Laura served as an Instructional Services Consultant and the Director of the Lapeer CountyMath/Science Center Director from 2006 to 2008.
