Local Students Participate in National Leadership Conference

In Anaheim, CA for Competition, Recognition, and Interaction with Industry

Business, Management and Administration students Ryan Waite, Sam Krueger and Marnie Daniel, along with Instructor Robin Frontiero and Case Manager Lane Robinson, participated in the May 5-9, 2010 National Leadership Conference of Business Professionals of America in Anaheim, California. Students served as representatives of the Business Professionals of America Chapter from St. Clair Technical Education Center. Marnie Daniel competed in Fundamental Spreadsheet Applications. Marnie has been an active member for two school years. Sam Krueger competed in Computer Network Technology and PC Servicing and Troubleshooting. Sam had the highest score on the written portion of the PC Servicing and Troubleshooting event. Sam has been an active member for the current school year. Ryan Waite attended the conference as a State Officer-elect, Vice President of Membership, representing Michigan. Ryan has been an active member for two years, serving as local chapter president for the current school year.

Approximately 5,500 students from throughout the United States participated in Business Professionals of America's 44th National Leadership Conference. Activities included general sessions with keynote speakers, business meetings, leadership workshops, contests, election of national officers, and tours of Anaheim sights and attractions! The highlight of the conference was the presentation of the awards to the winners of the national contests.

Future business professionals perform well at state competition and prepare for nationals.

Two students in TEC's Business, Management, and Administration program placed in three categories in the Business Professionals of America State Leadership Conference competition held March 18 - 21 in Grand Rapids. One student was elected State Officer Vice President of Membership. Instructor Robin Frontiero said one student earned awards in two events. The winning students are as follows:

 

- Marnie Daniel, Capac High School senior, 2nd Place in Fundamental Spreadsheet Applications

 

- Sam Krueger, Marine City High School senior (2nd year TEC student, was in Information Technology with Bill Saunders last year), 1st Place in PC Servicing & Troubleshooting and 6th Place in Computer Network Technology

 

- Ryan Waite, Algonac High School senior, elected State Officer Vice President of Membership

 

These students are eligible to participate in the Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference to be held May 5th through May 9th in Anaheim, California. The four-day conference includes leadership development workshops, competitive events for students and advisors, and national officer elections.

According to the Michigan BPA web site http://www.michiganbpa.org/conferences/index.htm, the National Leadership Conference is "a four-day conference, which includes leadership development workshops, competitive events for students and advisors, national officer elections, and tours."

Eight students in TEC's Business, Management and Administration program placed in eight categories in the Business Professionals of America Regional Leadership Conference competition at Baker College of Port Huron on Friday, January 8, 2010. Instructor Robin Frontiero said that one student earned awards in two events and another won in three events.

3rd Place - Katherine Stallwood, Marine City High School Senior (2nd year TEC student).

1st Place - Nicole Hebel, Algonac High School Senior (2nd year TEC student).

 

Computer Network Technology

1st Place - Sam Krueger, Marine City High School Senior (2nd year TEC student, was in Information Technology last year).

 

Database Applications

3rd Place - Katlyn Buckley, Port Huron Northern High School Senior (2nd year TEC student).

 

Fundamental Spreadsheet Applications

3rd Place - Chelsea Orrell, Yale High School Junior (1st year TEC student).

The winning students, along with 2 voting delegates, are eligible to go to the State Leadership Conference.

"Business Professionals of America members are provided an opportunity for the development of leadership skills, personal and professional growth, and career-related competencies. Involvement in Business Professionals of America will enhance social awareness, civic responsibility, and understanding of the business community. The state leadership conference (SLC) is the highlight of the Michigan Association year, and helps more than 2,000 members accomplish these objectives. The 38th Annual State Leadership Conference will be held in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on March 18-21, 2010. The parade of presidents, workshops, state officer elections, Workplace Skills Assessment Program events and a dinner/dance are the highlights of the conference. Delegates will have the opportunity to meet people and make many new friends. More than 100 schools located throughout the state will be represented at the conference."
